Review: Perfect Getaway

Posted by Yong Kun on 8:23 AM comments (0)

The Perfect Getaway is one of the better thriller movie i have watch this year. The scenary in the film is also one of the best i have ever seen, the beautiful and colorful scenary of Hawaii. Constrasting sharply with the dark and sinister trouble that disrupts the paradise and tranquility. The film was pretty boring at the start except for some sneaky scares along the trail. Only near the end, the drama starts to begin. It is a clever thriller movie with a huge twist near the end of the film. Like other thriller films, be prepared for lots of bloody scene...

*** Spoiler ***

Cliff and Cydney are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back. Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins...

A Christmas Carol

I am sure most of you all are familiar with "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. I remember this story, because it's one of redemption. It also shows that people can be compassionate, even someone that is as seemingly heartless as Mr Scrooge. Jim Carrey hogs the majority of the voice work, providing the voice of Scrooge from childhood to old-age, along with the three Ghosts of Christmas. I must say he did a pretty good job, i can't even recognise his voice. The film's animation effect is spectacular. Animation nowadays have improved so much.

*** Spoiler ***

Mr Scrouge is a grumpy old man who has stopped believing in Christmas because of his bitterness to the world. He is entirely unsympathetic to the poor and needy. Scrooge is also neglectful to his own family, such as his nephew Fred. Then one Christmas Eve, Scrooge returns home and is met by the ghost of his former business partner Marley who was in chains. Marley warned that three spirits will soon come to him and that very evening they do. First came the Ghost of Christmas Past, the second the Ghost of Christmas Present and the third the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Each ghost serves to show Scrooge where his life went wrong and what will come if he does not change his ways.

But parents who are planning on bringing their children to this movie, be warned! Some parts of the movie were pretty scary with the ghost popping out suddenly, Scrouge being chased by demonic horses and more.

I especially love the Ghost of Christmas Present scene. So heart warming.

Top Gear Series 13

I just got my hands onto Top Gear Series 13. So excited! This is my favourite Automobile TV program, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig.

Wasted no time in watching the First episode. Started with the Top Gear Race to the North which is a three way race between a Jaguar XK120 car, a Vincent Black Shadow motorbike, and No. 60163 Tornado train. The three presenters were put onto three different machines to see who can reach their destination first.

Then it was also unveiled later in the episode that the Stig is Michael Schumacher later on in the episode. This is just so cool, Michael Schumacher is possibly the best driver in F1 ever. Before he was unveiled, he was driving the Ferrari FXX around the track and it. He clock the best timing in the Top Gear Test Track and wiping 7 seconds off the next car, Gumpert Apollo Sport. The black unstriped Ferrari FXX on the show was owned by Michael Schumacher.
"A spokesman for Top Gear confirmed Schumacher had been The Stig during the Ferrari circuit, where he completed a lap of the Top gear track in 1 minute 10.7 seconds in a £1 million Ferrari FXX – seven seconds faster than ever before."

The Ferrari FXX.  Cooler than a batmobile. It is based on the legendary Ferrari Enzo. Customers pay $2.5 million, but are only allowed to drive the car on special track days which are approved by Ferrari.

2012

Roland Emmerich, director of 2012 has previously directed movies like 10,000 BC, The Day After Tomorrow, The Patriot. Well with a director of his credentials, this movie shouldn't be that bad right. Anyway 10,000 BC is a rubbish movie imho.

You are half right. Yes it isn't that bad, the CG effects are indeed over the top and the movie has a great cast. But something just doesn't feel right.

Neutrinos from the sun heats up the Earth's core, making the centre of the earth boil. This causes the crust that holds our tectonic plates to melt. Earthquakes and Tsunamis start occuring at all around the world. Super-countries began a project where they built few of this gigantic ships in China. The project was funded by the rich millionares all around the world, in exchange they were given a ticket or boarding pass for the ship.

It seems that the main characters are having their luckiest year of their lifetime. Plane taking off just before runway collapses, gliding through the sky avoiding all the lava that were spewed out from the volcano, driving just fast enough to avoid being hit by an explosion. It just seems to happen all the time throughout the entire movie.

I can't help but feel that some part of the show were pretty drag-ass with cheesy dialogue even in crunch situations. This explains why the movie is two and half hour long. Well at least we get to enjoy free aircon and a comfortable seat, except that i was seated in the FIRST row... at least i learn never to book movie tickets with a phone again.

Came across this, some of which were pretty hilarious.

100 things we've learned from 2012:
1. If you want to survive in 2012, take a couple of flight lessons.
42. Buy a Submarine before 12-21-2012.
60. If you make a call, hurry up and talk before the line goes dead!
117. When the world ends... the last thing ever made will read... "MADE IN CHINA"

Defeated Queen (败犬女王)

I finally got my hands onto the Taiwan drama "败犬女王". I bought the entire series from Ebay at only $25 inclusive of postage fee. SO CHEAP.

I did catch some of the episodes on SCV Cable. There is something similar about all Taiwan drama is that the storyline tend to be like a dreamy fairy tale. The story is talks about the relationship of a young chap and an older woman who is eight years older than him! 单无双 (Played by Cheryl Yang) is every mans' dream girl, she is delicate, sensitive, beautiful, fearless, proud, close to perfection. But i guess it is her seemingly strong appearance and successful career that make her seems inapproachable by men.

Bubble Wrapped

Unwrapped! Can't wait to watch it.

500 days of Summer

Posted by Yong Kun on 6:33 PM comments (0)

Caught this movie last weekend. Thought it will be nice to share this interesting movie.

500 Days of Summer. Interestingly every scene from the movie was introduced with a title card showing the number of day it is. Like what the narrator said upfront, this is not a love story. I think it paints a better picture about love than other romantic comedy. Watching this movie do remind me of the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

"Boy meets girl.
Boy falls in love.
Girl doesn't"

Summer, the female lead is a girl who does not believe in relationship. On the contrast, the male lead Tom dreams about finding his true love. And so both of them became more than friends. The female lead is so attractive, guess something to do with her vintage look.

If she can fall for you, she can fall for another person too.

The soundtrack for this movie is great too!
